Play Therapy for Children in York, Manchester & online
What is Play Therapy?
Play therapy uses play to help your child or young person to express their thoughts and feelings.
For many children, their natural way to communicate is through play rather than words, so this type of therapy can help your child to feel understood by their therapist and their parent or carer.
At The Retreat Clinics, we offer Play Therapy for young children. We offer different types of play therapy depending on the age, individual needs and choices made by your child and young person and your family. This may include sand tray, arts and crafts, role play and sensory play.
What do we use Play Therapy for?
Play therapy can help your child with a variety of issues including:
Anxiety
Low mood
Trauma
Bereavement
Depression
It can also be helpful for autistic children or children who have ADHD to help them to understand their neurodiversity.
What is a Play Therapy session like?
For some children, play therapy can help them emotionally, as they use play to learn more about their feelings and thoughts. For example, they may use role play to re-enact a traumatic or difficult experience, to understand what happened and how they can cope with these feelings going forwards. It can also help your child to manage relationships with family, friends and others in their daily lives.
We understand seeking therapy can be daunting for both you and your child and that taking the first step can be hard. We have a team of professional and friendly child therapists who can work together with you and your child to design a bespoke and flexible treatment which works best for them. Our children’s therapy services are available for children and teenagers aged 5 to 17, at our clinics in York, Manchester and online.
