Creative Arts Therapy in York, Manchester & online
What is Creative Arts Therapy?
Creative Arts Therapy is a type of therapy involving artwork, drama, songs, and poems. Creative arts therapy can help your child or young person find their voice through a creative medium that is comfortable for them, and it doesn’t need any skills or experience in the arts to be an effective treatment. It can help take the pressure off, whether this is creating artwork, writing stories, song lyrics and poems or acting.
What do we use Creative Arts Therapy for?
Sometimes it can be hard for your child or young person to find the words to communicate how they are feeling. Creative arts therapies can help your child or young person express themselves and communicate or make sense of their experiences in a less intense way than talking alone. Creative Arts therapy can be a fun, creative way for your child or young person to communicate feelings or thoughts they find difficult to talk about or to look at a problem or situation in a new way. For your child or young person, doing a creative activity with their therapist can also be helpful in making them feel more comfortable in therapy, putting them at ease and making the session feel less daunting.
What is a Creative Arts Therapy session like?
We offer different forms of creative art therapies, from art therapy, drama therapy and the use of story, which will be tailored to suit your child or young person’s individual wants and needs. They will be given a range of visual art, drama and music materials to make them feel comfortable during each session, there’s no right or wrong way for them to express themselves! Whether your child or young person prefers creating a piece of artwork or performing a song they’ve written, they will be supported throughout by our highly qualified Art Therapists, including drama and music therapists and visual art materials.
We also use visual Emotions and Relationships cards which are specially designed for children, to help your child reflect on key emotional experiences in their lives in a creative way, and to help them identify how they view themselves in the present and in the future.
