Compassionate and Strength Based Classrooms (For Teachers, and TA’s)
Compassionate and Strength Based Classrooms (For Teachers, and TA’s)
This workshop is designed to help teachers and other school staff think about how they can develop compassion within the classroom and to recognise and build on the strengths of all children.
Welcome to our online event designed specifically for teachers and teacher assistants! This workshop provides an introduction to Compassion Focused Therapy which helps to foster compassion and kindness within relationships between pupils, between pupils and teachers and between teachers and all school staff. Compassion focused therapy is a neurological informed model that focuses on the development of self-soothing, self-supportiveness and nurturance.
The strength-based classroom approach involves setting up strategies, routines and environments that give pupils the very best chance of succeeding. This approach is helpful for all children, including those who have experienced trauma and adverse life experiences. Teachers and other school staff should come away with practical knowledge of the five domains for building a strengths-based classroom; these are Body, Relationship, Stamina, Engagement and Character.
When teachers are empowered to design their classroom with attention to well-being principles, the benefits for pupils can be long standing and far reaching.
The workshop will be delivered by Jennifer Bailey, a child psychotherapist working with The Retreat Clinics with Children and Young People. She is also a qualified social worker.
