Children's & Adult Counsellor

Manchester, Online

My Expertise

I am a qualified counsellor and counselling supervisor, and an accredited member of the BACP. I work with children, young people and adults.

My experience has been gained working in a GP surgery as well as in the private and voluntary sectors working within established, nationally and regionally recognised counselling services.

I have worked within primary and secondary schools across Greater Manchester and Stockport as a children’s counsellor and Mental Health Practitioner providing short and longer-term counselling for pupils aged 5 and above. I also spent more than three years working as a counselling project manager in a primary school for a children’s mental health charity where I worked closely with teaching staff, children, and their families.

Though my practice is rooted in the person-centred approach, it has become more integrative over the years, using creative techniques, play, mindfulness and other strategies depending on the child/young person’s or adult client’s individual needs.

Issues I have worked with include anxiety, depression, loss, study pressure, relationship, friendship and family issues, self-esteem, gender identity, sexuality, disordered eating, self-harm, suicidal ideation.

My Qualifications

Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
CPCAB Level 4 Certificate in Counselling Children
CPCAB Level 6 Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision
BACP Accredited

What I enjoy most about my work

Curiosity about other people and listening to their stories attracted me to my initial career in journalism. When I started applying that same curiosity to myself and my own mental health/wellbeing it led me to a career in counselling.

My training gave me a deep desire to explore how early relationships and life experience shape us, our expectations of others and ability to cope with all the difficulties and challenges life can present.

It gave me a real passion for the profession - in particular providing a safe space for children and young people to talk, feel supported and gain autonomy, confidence and strategies to cope in life.

I am passionate about providing a safe space, free of criticism and judgement where clients can talk through any issues and feelings and try to make sense of what is going on for them and gain acceptance of their individual experience.

My interests outside of work

Outside of work I enjoy walking, running, reading and spending time with family and friends.
